Job description

Duties

The Australian Government Indigenous Lateral Entry (AGILE) program is a pathway into the Australian Government for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander professionals and managers across several occupational streams.

Through the AGILE program we are currently recruiting qualified and experienced lawyers from any legal discipline.

As a legal professional within the Australian Government there are many opportunities to undertake challenging work and make a meaningful contribution to the Australian community. Positions are available across a range of Australian Public Service and Commonwealth agencies. Each agency is responsible for a different aspect of Australian life, from education, health and community services to defence, immigration and infrastructure.

Positions will be available across the APS 6, EL 1 and EL 2 classifications.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must:
• be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person: As per subsection 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 these positions constitute an affirmative measure are restricted to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
• hold an undergraduate degree or higher qualification in law from a recognised educational/accredited institution.

Positions with some agencies may require the applicant to undergo a medical examination conducted by the agency’s preferred medical provider. Successful candidates may also be required to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance.

SALARY
Please note that the salary you receive will be in accordance with the employment framework and remuneration policy of your employing agency.

MERIT POOL
Outcomes from this selection process will also be used to fill similar ongoing and temporary vacancies across the Australian Government within twelve months from the date advertised.

APSC ROLE
It is the role of the Indigenous Capability Team within the APSC to coordinate and administer the Australian Government Indigenous Lateral Entry process on behalf of public sector agencies.

The filling of this vacancy is intended to constitute an affirmative measure under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975. This vacancy is only available to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

This vacancy has been nominated for filling within the agencys graduate program. A graduate program is a structured, on the job program, designed to introduce graduates to an APS organisation. Successful applicants receive training and development, mentoring and on the job support.
